The brainchild of Squier and Dinosaur Jr guitarist J Mascis, the Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster in Vintage White is a 60's classic reborn in style. This one takes inspiration from the Fender Jazzmaster, a guitar favoured by surfers, shoegazers, grunge artists and simply players searching for both retro vibes and that stand out sound.
With a spec put together by J Mascis himself this Squier retains many features that make a Jazzmaster a Jazzmaster but with a few signature twists. A larger 60's style headstock receives the seal of approval in the form of the Dinosaur Jr guitarists signature while the comfortable, contoured off-set body shape remains true to the iconic models of the past but instead is made using a lighter Basswood.
This guitar is a fashion statement in itself too. A gold anodised aluminium pickguard, aged white plastic knobs, aged white switch tip, aged white pickup covers, chrome hardware and a matching Vintage White finish really set off the look.
For his signature model Mascis has chosen a C shape Maple neck and paired it with a 9.5 radius Laurel fingerboard. This fingerboard of choice completes the 60's inspired look but houses 21 jumbo frets for a more modern feel. Also with an adjustable Adjusto-Matic bridge, vintage-style floating tremolo tailpiece and vintage-style tuners the J Mascis Jazzmaster performs like a guitar with a much more hefty price tag!
In terms of pickups, this Squier model boasts two custom single coil P90 Jazzmaster pickups for both the neck and bridge positions. Due to the natural surface area of the pickups themselves and their vintage voicing, this set offer a fat old school Jazzmaster sound and then some! Players can take control of these pickups using a three-position switch and dual rhythm/lead tone circuit sliders.
