This Fender American Original 60s P Bass in Olympic White with a Rosewood fingerboard pays homage to the legendary 1960s era Fender Precision bass. This timeless workhorse electric bass found it's way into the hands of countless artists across many genres all over the world. With this model you get the sound, style and comfort of a genuine vintage 60s P bass but with the added benefit of modern playability.
This rendition of the iconic P bass uses a double cutaway Alder body with a nitro lacquer finish and a 4-Ply Brown Shell pickguard, as seen on the genuine rare vintage original pieces that now go for big bucks. Also ensuring this American Original bass is as period correct as possible, Fender have also used the 1963 examples as a base for the graceful “C” profile Maple neck found on this very instrument except with a more modern 9.5" radius.
One key change with the 60s P bass design was the introduction of the of Rosewood for the fingerboard as apposed to Maple used for the first 50s Precisions. That smooth feel and added warmth associated with this dense tonewood has always made it a very desirable in the eyes of many musicians.
The period correct Pure Vintage ’63 P Bass split-coil pickup uses the same enamel coated coil wire, cloth-covered output wires, fiber bobbins and alnico 5 magnets. These critical components and techniques all come together to deliver that unmistakable powerful, punchy tone.
To match the iconic look and superior performance of the 60s models, this American Original P bass adopts the same USA vintage style nickel and chrome hardware. Fitted as standard are pure vintage reverse open-gear tuning machine heads, 20 vintage tall frets, a vintage style four-saddle vintage-style bridge and retro knurled flat-top control knobs.
