Really quite happy with this. The Ant has been discontinued, and now the Ashdown website talks of this product as if it is fine for bass, whereas previously it was aimed at guitarists. Looking at specifications, I can't find anything different between the Ant and Newt products (manuals report all the same specifications). My bass sounds fantastic through this with a bit of compression in front of it. The scoop switch is fantastic, giving you a short cut to a really different sound. If you're running a passive bass into it, you'll get a lot more output if you boost the signal with a preamp, or any kind of pedal. I run my compressor pedal with the volume maxed out. The Newt seems to appreciate the higher input signal. Hitting the scoop button, or boosting the treble EQ really does add noticeable amount of hiss if you've got your HF horn on. So maybe more suited to basses that are already brighter, so as to avoid that additional noise. Although I suspect it is comparable to any similarly priced unit. But in general, very happy with it. Using my Warwick streamer standard into a Ashdown RM 1x12 it sounds really good. The real miss on this is that there is no ground lift on the DI output, rendering it useless as soon as you get to a venue with variable ground potentials between the stage and desk :( In my opinion, a DI without a ground lift is most of the time an unusable DI. Would loved to have seen a ground lift, and also a post/pre EQ switch.
